Recurring monthly survivor payments may be made to the former spouse of a deceased retiree if the retiree elected a reduced annuity to provide a survivor benefit to the former spouse or the former spouse was awarded a survivor by court order. A former spouse must also meet the nine-month marriage requirement. A former spouse may also be entitled receive all or a portion of a retiree’s employee annuity while the employee is receiving an annuity benefit if a court order expressly awards a former spouse an apportionment of the retiree’s employee annuity.
