First, consider your job functions and whether they can be accomplished overseas. Contact your HR component to determine if your agency permits DETOs, and what the eligibility requirements are. Also, start a dialogue with your supervisor to see if he or she is amenable to such an arrangement and be prepared to discuss how you might make the arrangement work, including navigating time zone differences.
