Purpose

OPM will use this web page to keep the public informed on a timely basis about the quality of information we disseminate to the public. This information quality site will inform the public about OPM's information quality practices and procedures and includes access to our information quality guidelines.

Background

OPM's data quality guidelines were prepared in accordance with the "Guidelines for Ensuring and Maximizing the Quality, Objectivity, Utility and Integrity of Information Disseminated by Federal Agencies" (hereafter, Governmentwide Guidelines) published by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). OMB's Governmentwide Guidelines were published pursuant to Section 515 of the Treasury and General Government Appropriations Act for FY 2001 (Public Law 106-554).

Requests Received to Date

Since fiscal year 2009 (October 1, 2008-September 30, 2009), we have received no valid information quality requests and have had no outstanding requests from previous years. We will update this page upon receipt of any valid information quality request.

On December 16, 2004, the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) issued its Final Information Quality Bulletin for Peer Review. The Bulletin provides for agencies to peer review certain types of information before the information is disseminated to the public.

Based on the review it has conducted, OPM believes that it does not currently produce or sponsor the distribution of influential scientific information (including highly influential scientific assessments) within the definitions promulgated by OMB. As a result, at this time OPM has no agenda of forthcoming influential scientific disseminations to post on its website in accordance with OMB's Information Quality Bulletin for Peer Review.
