Norbert E. Vint was appointed as the Deputy Inspector General of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) in July 2006. Upon the retirement of former Inspector General Patrick E. McFarland, Mr. Vint became Acting Inspector General in February 2016 to the present. In that role, he is responsible for the day- to-day operations of the Office of the Inspector General (OIG), including ensuring that all OIG activities are conducted with the utmost integrity and objectivity. He works closely with the Inspector General, and participates in meetings between the Inspector General and the OPM Director. He also acts as the liaison with the OPM Chief of Staff to ensure there is a clear line of communication between the Office of the Director and the OIG.

Prior to being named the Deputy Inspector General, Mr. Vint held the position of Assistant Inspector General for Investigations for seven years. In that role, he oversaw all OIG criminal, civil, and administrative investigations related to OPM programs and activities. During his tenure, he developed and implemented a strategy to permanently relocate OIG criminal investigators throughout the nation, as opposed to the prior practice of centralizing investigative work in the OIG’s Washington, DC headquarters. This expanded structure has made the OIG more effective and efficient in conducting nationwide investigations.

Before joining the OPM OIG, Mr. Vint spent 25 years working at the United States Secret Service. During his tenure, he provided line and managerial oversight of protective, investigative, and administrative activities. In his prior assignments, Mr. Vint served as the Deputy Assistant Director for Administration, Executive Assistant to the Director for Diversity and Workforce Planning, Deputy Security Coordinator for the 1997 Presidential Inauguration, Special Agent-in- Charge, and Assistant Special Agent-in-Charge.

Mr. Vint has been a member of the Senior Executive Service since 1999. He attended the University of Maryland, College Park, graduating in 1971 with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
